Adolesco Youth Exchange offers a two-way exchange program that gives students the opportunity to immerse themselves in a new language and new culture AND to host a carefully matched exchange partner in turn. The kids are together in each other’s country, forging a life-long bi-lingual friendship along the way.
Your match will be about your age, and your families will decide exactly WHEN (whatever’s best for your schedules), and for HOW LONG (anywhere up to 12 weeks) you want to go on exchange and host as part of our flexible and affordable non-profit language immersion and cultural exchange program for qualifying students between the ages of 9 and 18.
Start your application at www.Adolesco.org/pre-application and get in touch with local mom Marie Meyer, the Adolesco Exchange Coordinator, at 303-913-4845. Applications are due on Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, with matches announced in early January 2020.
Our families make the final decisions on when to host and when to exchange according to what suits their schedules best, and it can include time in the school year and/ or the summer, which ever works best for your specific circumstances, so getting your application is ASAP means more time for us to find you the best possible match for you and your family and your unique situation.
School attendance in the US is not a part of our program, although our candidates are typically able to attend school in France, Germany, Italy, or Spain if they want (but maybe not for credit). European parents understand that their child will probably not be able to attend school while in the US, and other options like home-schooling or volunteering could be possible. Most of our families decide to only host during the summer so that school attendance for credit in the US is not an issue. That said, parents can enroll exchange siblings in their neighborhood public school if you are hosting during the school year since they will have temporary guardianship. Or they might be able to have them ‘shadow’ for a short time at your school, if the school principal approves it.
After the November 15th due date, the next applications due date in the US and Canada will be mid-March 2020 with matchings announced early May 2020. We typically have these two “matchings” a year, although we accept applications throughout and we might be able to match you at any time off our long list of European kiddos waiting to come to the US.
The best place to start your application is by submitting the free Pre-Application at www.adolesco.org/pre-application. We will then send you the Full Application, consisting of 5 documents, including a photo file, references and an interview. . Please make sure to allocate enough time to complete your application it in order to be considered for our program and begin your application today!
We look forward to meeting you and answering your questions.
